Maureen's Haven

Maureen’s Haven began in the winter of 2002, under the auspices of Peconic Community Council, with St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and Mattituck Presbyterian Church housing homeless men and women one night each week. The goal is to provide safe, warm temporary overnight housing, dinner, breakfast and a bag lunch. Presently transportation is provided each night of the week to and from nearly twenty houses of worship on the North and South Forks of Long Island from November  through March or April depending on the year.

Currently four Hampton Bays churches (St. Mary's Episcopal Church, St. Rosalie's Roman Catholic Church, Hampton Bays Assembly of God, and Good Ground Methodist Church) and volunteers from Maureen's Haven central office in Riverhead work together, along with strong support from civic organizations such as the Scouts and Masons, to provide housing at either St. Mary's or Good Ground every Friday night.  All of the groups involved are always looking for volunteers to help with the set-up, meals, clean-up, laundry drop-off/pick-up and especially staying overnight. It requires many volunteers (over 1,200) to operate this program which has grown considerably over the years. We at St. Mary’s have accommodated between 25 and 30 guests on most nights. If you would like to help as a volunteer or through financial support, please contact the church office at 631-728-0776.
